Comments Requested for Battery-Electric Switcher Locomotive Program





On February 19, 2025, South Coast AQMD held a virtual workshop to gather input on the INVEST CLEAN project which will deploy at least 18 Battery-Electric Switcher Locomotives. Funding will be provided for the development and deployment of battery-electric switcher locomotives. The program also provides funding for the installation of chargers needed to operate these battery-electric switcher locomotives. INVEST CLEAN is a transformational initiative aimed at modernizing the Southern California goods movement and logistics system to zero-emission technologies. The project spans from the San Pedro Bay Ports through Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties to the borders of California, Arizona, and Nevada borders. WAIRE Program Mitigation funds may be used as a supplement for projects in the South Coast AQMD jurisdiction.
